Introduction

The disjunct distribution of this species may indicate that more than one species is represented. The species was originally described from Papua New Guinea and has subsequently been recorded in the far north of the Northern Territory although there are also records from New South Wales which need to be verified.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: gregarious, myrmecophilous, phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Face with maxillary plates, lora and frontoclypeus laterally ivory partially suffused with apricot; anteclypeus, the frontoclypeus medially and the vertex deep coffee brown with pale oval markings. Crown and pronotum pale greyish brown mottled laterally with dark brown. Scutellum anterior lateral angles dark brown, the remainder pale brown. Tegmen pale hyaline brown with evenly distributed circular colourless hyaline areas. Thorax ventral surface and legs marked with a pattern of pale and dark brown. Length 5.5 mm (Evans 1947).
