Introduction

This species is distributed across the top end of Australia from Western Australia to Queensland. It has been collected on Melaleuca and is a potential biocontrol agent for species of this genus which are considered weeds overseas.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: gregarious, myrmecophilous, phloem feeder (associated flora: Melaleuca viridiflora Sol. ex Gaertn. [MYRTACEAE] Broad leaved Paperbark).

 

Diagnosis

Maxillary plates greyish, the rest of the face pale greyish brown evenly mottled with dark brown. Crown, pronotum and scutellum greyish, sparsely mottled with brown. Tegmen very pale hyaline brown; veins brown with white bars. Legs, femora dark brown, tibiae pale brown. Length 5 mm (Evans 1947).
