Diagnosis

Definite pedal disc, column, thick-walled, feebly divided into scapus and capitulum. Column with more or less regular longitudinal and transverse furrows. Scapus with patchy incrustation. Mesogloea of scapus with numerous lacunae of all shapes and sizes; some so large and close to surface they form hollow papillae. Tentacles simple, three or four cycles. Four cycles of mesenteries, first cycle perfect. Marginal sphincter muscle alveolar, long, running through the whole thick wall of capitulum and into top of the scapus. Does not fill whole mesogloea, lies close to ectoderm at margin, gradually tapers off to a point lying in the middle of the mesogloea.
