Genus Homasterope Kornicker, 1975

Introduction

Males of Homasterope have a female-type sensory seta with 6 terminal filaments, a feature unique within the subfamily. In both sexes there are also fewer than six dorsal seta on the article 3 of the first antenna (rare but not unique). Kornicker (1975) erected this genus for two new species and two new combinations. The type species is Asterope curta Skogsberg, 1920; there are currently 5 species. However, no males are known for H. micra and so its placement in this genus is not certain.

Diagnosis

The genus is based on the presence of a female-type sensory bristle on fifth segment of the male 1st antenna. The females have fewer than 6 bristles along the dorsal margin of the 3rd segment of the 1st antenna, which is encountered rarely among other genera in the subfamily.
