Species Hartmannella cantabrigiensis Page, 1974
- Hartmannella cantabrigiensis Page, F.C. 1974. A further study of taxonomic criteria for limax amoebae, with descriptions of new species and a key to genera. Archiv für Protistenkunde 116: 149-184.
Introduction
Recent sequence analysis indicates that Hartmannella is not monophyletic (Brown et al 2011). The type strain of H. cantabrigiensis is closely related to Copromyxa protea, a tubulinean amoeba whose cysts occur in simple stalked aggregates — 'fruiting structures' — that lead Copromyxa to be treated as a cellular slime mouls (a grouping that itself is polyphyletic). Australian amoebae that fit this morphospecies have not been sequenced.
