Holotype NSMT P.73195 ♂, off Aka-todai Lighthouse, Kashiwa-jima Island, Kochi Prefecture, Japan.

Introduction
Material from eastern Australia had previously been identified as G. arenicola, but that material is now regarded as G. lauensis.

Based on specimens in AM and NTM from Kimberley Region of WA (123°32`E) and Trepang Bay to Truant Island, NT, One Tree Island, QLD; tropical, north Pacific.
