   Oxyrhachis neglectus Buckton, 1903 by monotypy.

 

Introduction

This genus is currently monotypic but Day (1999) recognised three additional undescribed species. The distribution given here for the genus includes all four species. The genus needs a species level revision to establish species identities and limits. The species are not common in collections but, as pointed out by Day (1999), most specimens have come from arid areas which are not visited by collectors as much as more accessible coastal areas. The etymology was given by Distant (1916) as "I have dedicated this genus to the memory of the old mercantile house, Goddefroy Bros., of Hamburg, who always instructed their employees who represented them abroad to collect for their museum at home."

Diagnosis

Allied to Xiphistes [Stål], but differing in the more robust and regularly convex posterior pronotal process and the reticulated apical tegminal area (Distant 1916).

A distinctive genus, characterised by reticulate venation and forwardly projecting lateral pronotal processes. Metopidium as broad as high. Crossveins M–cu1 and M–cu2 present. Vein 2A branched (Day 1999).

Day (1999) provided a comprehensive redescription of the genus.
