Diagnosis
G. symmetricus has a number of clearly primitive structural features. The absence in the male second and female fourth legs of the asymmetry observed in the other species has been pointed out in Section II. Also there is a lesser degree of sexual dimorphism than that exhibited by the other species. This is seen especially in the fifth legs in which the male and female endopodites are almost identical. Furthermore, the terminal spine of the distal segment of the male left exopodites is almost as well developed as that on legs 1-4, and as that on the exopodites of the females fifth legs.
