Introduction

Species of the family Centropagidae are plentiful in the marine water column plankton community, particularly in coastal waters. Centropagidae is the foremost freshwater calanoid family in Australasia and southern South America, with some species located on Subantarctic islands and in Antarctic lakes. There are 14 genera, and over 100 species. See Boxshall & Halsey (2004: 86) for more details as well as a key to the genera.
