Species Solenostomus paradoxus (Pallas, 1770)

Ornate Ghostpipefish, Ghost Pipefish, Harlequin Ghost Pipefish, Ornate Ghost-pipefish

Generic Combinations

Miscellaneous Literature Names

  • Fistvlaria paradoxa Pallas, 1770 [genus spelling in original description].

Introduction

Some workers included Solenostomus leptosoma as a junior synonym of this species (Kuiter 1993). Orr & Fritsche (1993) treated that species as of uncertain status. Orr et al (2002) also did not recognise S. leptosoma and regarded the usage of that name by Kuiter (2000) as based on an undescribed species. Consequently the name used here is tentative and distribution records not well documented.
