Introduction
The validity of this species needs to be rechecked. The specimen to which Liang, et al. (2012) refers as the male holotype is from "Kadarri, N.T. April 1934" but Lallemand's original (1949) locality data are "Burnside (20.iii.1929); Newcastle Waters (2.vi.1929)" which means that Liang et al. (2012) have not based their understanding of this species on the original type material which remain with syntype status. The species was formerly synonymised (as artofasciata) with E. carnifex (Fabricius) by Evans (1966).

Diagnosis
This species is similar to E. angustifasciatus Liang, et al. in external appearance but differs in having the forewings with the anterior and posterior transverse dark brown fasciae distinctly broader and in having the aedeagal shaft with the ventral, posteriorly directed part distinctly shorter than the subgenital plates in ventral view. This species can also be distinguished from typical E. carnifex (Fabr.) by the body smaller and less rounded, the forewings with the anterior and posterior transverse dark brown fasciae narrower, the hindwings with the dark marking at apex reduced, the pronotum always uniformly orange and the ventral part of the aedeagal shaft shorter (Liang, et al. 2012).
Liang, et al. (2012) give a comprehensive description of the species.
