Syntype(s) MOM, Sargasso Sea; UZM, Sargasso Sea; Red Sea; various localities in Indian Ocean; various localities from Gulf of Siam to southern Japan to Philippines; ZMA 1 specimen, Siboga Stn 177 [2°30'S 129°28'E]; ZMA 10 specimens, Siboga Stn 128 [4°27'N 125°25.7'E].

Extra Distribution Information

Atlantic-Indo-Pacific Oceans (subtropical in all ocean basins, but extends into tropical Caribbean Sea, eastern Atlantic, Indian Ocean, and western Pacific—in mid-South Pacific between 90–170ºW, it is restricted to 10–20ºS).
