Comment: Hansen (1905: 9) established that the 'Challenger' specimens recorded by Sars, G.O. 1885. Report on the Schizopoda collected by H.M.S. "Challenger" during the years 1873–76. Challenger Report on Zoology 13(37): 1–228 as E. splendens Dana, 1850 (see Dana, J.D. 1850. Synopsis generum crustaceorum ordinis "Schizopoda". American Journal of Science 9: 129–133), could not belong to that species and required a new name, E. lucens; he ostensibly referred to Sars' material as the basis of his new species, but states, `the Copenhagen Museum possesses numerous specimens from three places south of or far south-west of the Cape of Good Hope and from various localities in the Pacific'; because these are the specimens that Hansen actually examined, then they must be considered the syntypes.Type locality references:
