Introduction

This species has a dark reddish frons which appears to be diagnostic and after which it was named. It has a reasonably wide distribution on the southeastern Australian mainland from South Australia to SE Queensland.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Pale yellow brown, apical margin of head cream, frontoclypeus red brown becoming increasingly dark to chocolate brown anteriorly, anteclypeus dark brown becoming black at apex. Gena with reddish obfuscation below antenna. Tegmen hyaline with light yellow brown veins. Clavus light yellow brown. Face of head with lora enlarged but not bulbous, not nearly meeting across anteclypeus. Gena near postclypeus protruding beyond base of lora. Frontoclypeus evenly convex. Face shagreen. Frontoclypeal sutures extending short distance onto crown. Ocelli not clearly defined. Crown broadly rounded anteriorly, shagreen. Pronotum anteriorly smooth, transversely striate on posterior 3/5. Scutellum shagreen. Tegmen reaching to just beyond apex of abdomen, apical cells short. M3+4 and CuA1 united close to margin. Tegmen with 4 apical cells (Fletcher & Condello 1994).

Fletcher & Condello (1994) also described and figured the male genitalia.

The colour of the frons and the shapes of the aedeagus, parameres and subgenital plates are distinctive.
