Subtribe Epistomentina Levey, 1978
- Epistomentini Levey, B. 1978. A new tribe, Epistomentini, of Buprestidae (Coleoptera) with a redefinition of the tribe Chrysochroini. Systematic Entomology 3: 153-158 [155].
Type genus:
Epistomentis Solier, 1849 [orginal designation].
Introduction
Three Australian genera are placed in this group, Araucariana Levey, Cyroides Carter and Diadoxus Saunders.
The replacement name Cyriola has been overlooked by all authors since the name Cyria was found to be preoccupied and changed in a rather obscure work by Strand (1928). However, an older name is Cyrioides Carter, 1920, which must now be considered the senior synonym. Species of Cyrioides are associated with the plant genus Banksia.
The genus Diadoxus contains three species and all are associated with species of Callitris. The biologies of two species were discussed by Peterson & Hawkeswood (1980).
The most recently described genus, Araucariana, is in some ways, very much the extreme in morphology in this group. The single species, A. queenslandica Levey, is associated with Araucaria in Queensland and northern New South Wales. This author believes that this taxon might have a relationship with other higher taxa, including Trachykelina, Nascionina and Mendizabaliina.
