Introduction

There are a number of species of the genus which have the base of the hindwing red or orange bordered with black or dark brown. This species is also reddish orange on the forewing. It was first described from Lizard Island, off Cape York Peninsula and has also been recorded from Yarrabah Mission in the wet tropics of North Queensland.

All stages: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Cervina; pedibus anterioribus fusco-annulatis; tegminibus fuscescentibus, cervino-venosis, minute pallido-conspersis et maculis nonnullis rotundatis pallidis, quarum tres ad marginem costalem positae sunt, notatis, prope basin macula nigra ornatis, parte tertia apicali obscuriore, parce nigro-conspersa; alis vitreis, fusco-venosis, apice infurcatis, basi luteis, area anali fasciaque, partem lueam postice terminante, nigro-fuscis; abdomine croceo, subtus nec non superne basi nigro, maculis ventris in series duas dispositis limboque angusto postico segmentorum croceis. ♀ Long. 15, Exp. tegm. 37 mill. (Stål 1863).

Chamois. Ailes hyalines, à nervures foncées et extrémité brunâtre, sur la partie basale, une grande tache jaune bordée de brun noirâtre. Elytres brunâtres, à nervures chamois, pointillés de clair, portant quelques taches rondes, claires, dont 3 au bord costal, ainsi qu'une noire près de la base, partie postérieure plus foncée avec quelques taches noires. Face supérieure de l'abdomen jaune à base noire; les segments de la face inférieure sont noirs, bordés de jaune et portent 2 séries de taches jaunes. Comme chez insularis, le prolongement frontal s'étend jusque près du bord postérieur du vertex. Longueur du corps: 15 mm; envergure: 37 mm (Lallemand (1963).
