Introduction
The Setarchidae comprise three genera and six species worldwide, with three genera and five species known from Australia. Setarchids are found on the outer continental shelf and slope to depths of 100 to over 700 m. Maximum size is around 20 cm.
Members of the Setarchidae are typically included as a subfamily of the Scorpaenidae (Nelson 2006), but here they are treated as a separate family. Eschmeyer & Collette (1966) reviewed the family.
