Introduction
The Bembridae comprise five genera and about 10 species (Nelson 2006). Three species are known from Australia. Bembrids are found on the outer continental shelf and upper continental slope of the Indo-west Pacific region. Maximum size is 30 cm.
Imamura (1996) separated the family from the Platycephalidae, and Imamura & Knapp (1998) reviewed the genus Bembras. Poss (1999) provided a key to species.
