Taxonomic Decision for Synonymy

 

Introduction

The identity of this species needs to be determined based on examination of the type material. It appears to differ from D. abbreviatus in the lack of a white spot on the costal margin of the tegmen. D. obscura has been recorded in the Brisbane area and in the North Brigalow Belt at Peak Downs homestead.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Head above, thorax and tegmina, dark castaneous; face, abdomen and legs, pale sanguineous; face with a broad, castaneous fascia at base; eyes pale ochraceous. Long. 5 millim. (Distant 1893)

Piceous, immaculate. Carinae on head, pronotum, etc., and veins (mostly) dark castaneous. Pleura, abdomen and posterior femora sanguineous; rest of legs obscurely marked with pale brown. Lateral angles of frons much more produced than in Stål's figure of D. abbreviata. Length: 5 7/8 mill. (Kirkaldy 1906, as Dardus immaculatus)
