Introduction

The higher classification of the Eurybrachidae needs considerable revision (Constant, pers. comm. 2010), particularly in terms of the Australian fauna. Schmidt (1908) divided the family into six tribes, grouped into two subfamilies, but little was known of the Australian eurybrachid fauna at that time. The described Australian fauna was placed in two tribes, the Platybrachini and Dardini, both included in the subfamily Platybrachinae. Recent work by Jerome Constant on the Australian fauna has demonstrated that the Platybrachini is not a natural group but further work is required before the relationships between the Australian genera can be determined and a valid higher classification established. Here we follow the classification used by Metcalf (1956) which is based on Schmidt (1908).
