Subfamily Cypricercinae McKenzie, 1971

Introduction

Occurs worldwide, but it is especially diverse in the tropics. There are 11 genera and ~170 species, and three tribes: Cypricercini, Bradleystrandesiini and Nealecypridini. A phylogenetic analysis and key to genera is presented in Savatenalinton & Martens, 2009.

 

Diagnosis

Left valve overlaps right one ventrally. Second thoracopod 5-segmented. First thoracopod with "c" seta absent. Attachment of caudal ramus distally straight (not branched), proximally with a very characteristic oval to triangular loop (so-called Triebel loop). Seminiferous tubules spirally enrolled in anterior valve area.
