Introduction
This species has been known as Cryptocentroides insignis for many years. Use of the name is based on examination of the syntypes by Hoese & Larson. The name has been in use after 1899, incorrectly as an Oxyurichthys by Herre (1927) and therefore cannot be regarded as a nomen oblitum.
