Introduction

This species, which has facial projections intermediate between those of C. scalpellum and C. tricornis, is only known from Nyang Station in the Ashburton Shire of Western Australia. This station sits on the border between the Carnarvon and Gascoyne bioregions.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: gregarious, myrmecophilous, phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

General coloration chestnut or dark mottled brown. Face of head anteriorly pale brown, posteriorly mottled dark brown; labium terminating between fore coxae; anterior margin of face transverse, lora swollen; frontoclypeus with a median, transverse, projecting flattened ledge; vertex with a pair of forwardly and outwardly projecting apically acute processes. Pronotum chestnut or dark mottled brown, sometimes with a broad, median, longitudinal white stripe. Scutellum black with an approximately circular brown marking. Tegmen hyaline whitish with irregular brown areas; veins brown. Male genitalia with small and narrow subgenital plates and minute parameres. Length ♂ 5mm, ♀ 6 mm (Evans 1969).
