- Clytophylla Turner, A.J. 1929. New Australian Lepidoptera. Transactions of the Royal Society of South Australia 53: 297-308 [299].
Type species:
Clytophylla artia Turner, 1929 by monotypy (Bunya Mountains, Queensland).
Introduction
Holloway (2003) notes that the SE Asian genus Plagerepne Tams bears a very strong resemblance to Clytophylla Turner based on facies and several anatomical features. Plagerepne was originally placed in the Pyralidae, but detailed studies of Plagerepne torquata Tams indicate that there are no tympanal organs present in the thorax or abdomen, the tongue is unscaled, and venation of the hindwing differs to the pyralid norm (Holloway 2003). Holloway (2003) treats Plagerepne as an unplaced noctuoid genus, hence the decision made here is to remove Clytophylla Turner from the chloephorine Nolidae as an unplaced noctuoid until further studies establish the correct placement.
