Diagnosis
Carapace elongate, subtriangular, laterally compressed. Anterior end rounded; posterior end drawn out ventrally. Prominent dorsal caudal angles. True caudal process not present. Ornamented usually with ridges, running mainly longitudinally, sometimes with prominent tubercles, rarely smooth. Intercostate reticulation never present. Inner lamella very wide anteriorly. Marginal pore canals numerous, straight, usually simple. Hinge amphidont/heterodont.
