Cassiopea ornata was originally found in Palau, New Guinea, and northern Australia, and has since been reported from a few places throughout the tropical and subtropical Pacific. The species was considered valid by von Lendenfeld (1884: 285) in his catalogue of Australian medusae, but has not been reported in Australian waters since; Palau, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, Japan
Ecological Descriptors
Carnivorous, estuary, marine, sedentary, zooxanthellate.
Diagnosis
100-200mm wide, flat; five lappets in each octant, blunt, indistinctly separated; mouth-arms cylindrical, slender, somewhat longer than bell radius, not broad and flat as in C. andromeda; only small, club-shaped vesicles between the mouths.
