Introduction

The subfamily Candoninae is the most diverse ostracod group in ground water ecosystems and also has many representatives in surface waters. It is exclusively a freshwater group, with about 500 living representatives worldwide, divided into eight tribes and 36 genera. About 100 species have been described from Australia, mainly from ground waters.

Diagnosis

Same as for Candonidae, except that the swimming setae on the second antenna are completely absent, and prehensile palps are not segmented.
