Introduction
Currently, two species are recognised from Australia, but both have been confused under the name Callanthias allporti; see Roberts & Gomon (2008) for characters to separate the species. Williams et al. 1996 recorded a new species from Western Australia. Further studies are need to resolve the taxonomy of the Australian species.
