Introduction
The Cobitidae are native to freshwaters of Eurasia and Morocco and include about 240 species (Eschmeyer & Fong 2012). Most cobitids have an elongate and highly flexible body, with 3–6 pairs of barbels around the mouth. They are popular aquarium fishes. A single species has been introduced into Australia and is treated by Allen et al. (2002). Maximum size is 40 cm.
