Ningaloo Reef (22°00'S) to Dampier Archipelago (20°28'S), Rowley Shoals (17°20'S) and Scott Reef (14°03'S), WA, Ashmore Reef, Timor Sea (12°15'S), Christmas Island, Cocos (Keeling) Islands, and Escape Reef, QLD (15°49'S) to Moreton Bay (27°20'S), but juveniles as far south as Kiama, NSW (34°39'S), also Boot Reef, Coral Sea (10°02'S), Coringa-Herald Cays and Lihou Reef Nature Reserves, Coral Sea, Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island; tropical, Indo-west-central Pacific.
