Genus Bathyleberis Kornicker, 1975

 

Introduction

Erected by Kornicker in 1975 (Kornicker 1975) for three new species, including the type species Bathyleberis grossmani, this genus is distinguished by the spine-shaped d- seta, and presence of the mandible e-seta. There are nine species.

Circumglobal in southern oceans between about 38ºS and 61ºS; depth range 2–4303 m.

Diagnosis

Carapace elongate without ornamentation; list on posterior infold with hyaline spines and bristles between them; infold between list and posterior valve margin with or without bristles and processes. Second antenna: medial and lateral surfaces of protopodite spinous or bare. Mandibula: tip of ventral branch of coxale endite with 3 teeth. Dorsal margin of basale with 1–4 midbristles and terminal pair. Exopod reaching about middle of dorsal margin of 1st endopodite segment and with 2 short bristles on hirsute tip. Dorsal margin of 2nd endopodal segment with long lateral bristle between b- and c- bristles.
