Introduction

As the name indicates, this is the smallest of the known species of Barsac. As with B. cinerascens and B. cocoa, it inhabits drier areas of inland Australia. B. minima has been recorded in several localities between Southern Cross in Western Australia to Ouyen in western Victoria.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Coloration. Light brown to dark brown. Clypeus as in type species. Frons pale brown. Vertex dark brown with transverse ridge testaceous. Pronotum and mesonotum dark brown with variable longitudinal pale lines. Pronotum with pale testaceous granules. Tegmen as in type species. Legs pale brown. Morphology. Head, thorax and tegmina similar to type species. Vertex with front margin roundly angulate medially. Pronotum front margin convex to transverse medially. Apex of hind tibia with 7 spines. Male genitalia. Pygofer posterior margin undulate. Paramere very broad, convex, apically truncate. Dorsal process broad basally then narrowed abruptly, apically curved laterally. Aedeagus with ventral margin strongly bowed. Two pairs of apical aedeagal processes, one curving around the ventral side of the aedeagal apex and the other directed more or less straight towards the base of the aedeagus (Fletcher 1988).
