Subfamily Flatinae Melichar, 1901

Compiler and date details

15 February 2011 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

This subfamily includes all but three of the described Australian species of Flatidae. The species tend to be vertical with the wings held together along the apical margin whereas in species of the subfamily Flatoidinae, the wings are held flatter over the body. There are some exceptions, such as Budginmaya eulae Fletcher & Moir but the tegmina being moulded around the body in that species is regarded as a derived modification for cohabiting with ants in their nest.

Diagnosis

Körper von den Seiten zusammengedrückt, die Deckflügel stark vertical gestellt, die Costalränder derselben unterhalb des Körpers zusammenfossend oder einander sehr genähert (Melichar 1901).
