   Alocanthella fulva Evans, 1966 by original designation.

 

Introduction

Although currently monotypic, the genus includes two undescribed species from the Northern Territory (Day 1999). The species are small and squat with the pronotum broadly humped in lateral view. The median pronotal process (MPP) is undulate dorsally (saddle-shaped is the term used by Day 1999) and is similar to the MPP of Bunyella dromedarius (Kirkaldy) which has an anterior pronotal saddle in addition to the posterior one. The only described species is found along coastal Queensland.

Diagnosis

When viewed from in front, the ventral sides of the lateral pronotal processes form an even curve and the dorsal sides are basally convex. In dorsal aspect these processes, which are triangular in section and apically acute, extend laterally only slightly beyond the humeral angles. The median pronotal process, which is keel-shaped and strongly sinuate with two saddles and a median depression, extends almost as far as the apex of tegminal vein Cu1a. Anteriorly it is continued as a median ridge which extends almost as far as the anterior margin of the pronotum. In the tegmina M and Cu1 are basally fused (Evans 1966).
