Introduction

This finely mottled, pale-coloured species has been recorded from the wet tropics of North Queensland to Brisbane in SE Queensland. It was omitted from Knight's (1970) revision of the genus Hishimonus since specimens were unavailable for study and was formally excluded from the genus Hishimonus by Fletcher & Dai (2013) on the basis of differences in colour and features of the male genitalia.

Diagnosis

Whitish (tinged with yellowish sometimes on vertex and scutellum), minutely speckled with dark fuscous. Tegmina with most of the veins pale yellowish-brown on head, face, nota, tegmina 2nd legs, the apical ones darker, part of the apex narrowly suffused. Lora remote from the apical margin of the genae. Vertex more rounded and a little shorter than in E. sellata, nearly twice as wide as the length. Claval veins united near the base by a cross vein, the anal vein slightly curved, meeting the commissure at an acute angle. Male valve short, transverse. Female: apical margin of last sternite sublaterally emarginate, also minutely emarginate medianly. Pygopher about 3 times as long as last sternite, bristly, widened a little near the base, but narrowing at the base. Length 4½ mm. (Kirkaldy 1907).

Head and body pale testaceous with brown flecking. Vertex with indistinct, narrow, transverse band subapically which lacks brown flecking, occipital suture dark brown. Tegmen whitish with brown flecking, veins pale brown, claval suture sometimes yellowish. Genitalia. Male: Subgenital plate tapering into apical finger-like process. Parameres each with preapical lobe well developed; apical process with preapical tooth. Connective long with arms about as long as stem. Aedeagal shafts in posterior aspect broadly divergent at base and evenly curved dorsally and of even width to gonopore, bearing narrow, bifurcated apical process directed dorsomedially; in lateral view curved basally, then more or less straight. Basal apodeme short, blunt apically. Female: Apical margin of pregenital sternite transverse with medial section extended slightly posteriorly and shallowly concave (Fletcher and Dai 2018).
