Notothrix halsei gen. n., sp. n., representative of a new family of freshwater cladocerans (Branchiopoda, Anomopoda) from SW Australia, with a discussion of ancestral traits and a preliminary molecular phylogeny of the order. Type data:
Holotype WAM C 38268. parthenogenetic female, WA, Lake Angove [34°56'S 118°01'E].
Paratype(s) WAM C 38269 numerous parthenogenetic females, same locality as for holotype.

Extra Ecological Information
'[L]ives in shallow, lowland coastal freshwater lakes and marshes, and clearly favours the littoral and similar habitats with dense vegetation. It occurs in slightly acidic to neutral waters with no particularly distinctive water chemistry'.
