  Type data:

   Holotype ANIC ♂ (coll.: 25.vii.-18 viii.1992, Zborowski & Cardale, malaise trap), Heathlands dump, Cape York Peninsula, Queensland [11°45'S 142°35'E].

 

Introduction

This species is based on a single male specimen from far north Queensland. The name is derived from an Aboriginal word for "short", presumably referring to the shorter relative length of the pronotal horns in comparison with those of N. longinotum although the species is considerably larger overall than its congener.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Much larger than N. longinotum [Day]. Ratio of total length to pronotal length 2.3 (measured from humeral angle to anterior apex). Face and ventral side of pronotum and legs very dark brown. Frontal margin medially straight. Gena markedly angular. Lateral margin of tegmen dark brown. Subcostal cell entirely coriaceous. Length (holotype ♂) 11 mm (Day 1999).
