Species Kyphosus sectatrix (Linnaeus, 1758)

Beaked Chub, Grey Drummer, Pacific Chub, Pacific Drummer

Introduction

Previously know from Australia as K. pacificus Sakai & Nakabo, 2004. Now considered a junior synonym of K. sectatrix based on morphological and molecular data (Knudsen & Clements 2013). Knudsen & Clements (2013) also found several other species to be synonyms of K. sectatrix which has resulted in the species having a much larger distribution than previously thought, now including east and west Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and the Red Sea.
