Introduction
Sluys et al. (2009) report that Carranza et al. (1998) proposed this group name without a description, and hence, as a nomen nudem. Sluys et al. argue, however, that under the ICZN provisions, a formal diagnosis of the taxon is unnecessary above the family level, and therefore they attribute the authority for Continenticola to Carrana, Littlewood, Clough, Ruiz-Trillo, Baguña & Riutort, 1998.
