Introduction

This species in general appearance has similarities to certain species of Empoascanara Distant which also have a round black spot at the apex of the head surrounded by a faint "halo". The species is widespread in mainland Australia from both coastal and inland localities.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: parenchyma feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Pale yellowish cinerous, paler beneath; eyes, and a large spot on the anterior margin of vertex, black, the latter irregularly encircled by a faint brown halo; a transverse brown stripe, widening medianly, on the pronotum close to the posterior margin. Scutellum and rest of pronotum more or less sordid. Tegmina hyaline, costally smoky; wing veins smoky. Abdomen (except the pallid genital segments) more or less pale sordid brownish (♂) or brownish black (♀). Vertex roundly triangular, about same length as pronotum. Length: 2½ mm. (Kirkaldy 1906).
