Introduction

A small genus of medium-sized flatids found in Australia, New Guinea, indonesia and the Philippines. The two recognised Australian species are both tropical in distribution where one, C. acuminata (Walker), is associated with mango, Mangifera indica L., and is known as the mango planthopper. It shows considerable variation in size and colour but the male genitalia (illustrated by Fletcher 1988) is consistent throughout.

Diagnosis

Allied to Colgar Kirk., but differing by the structure of the face, which is much the same shape as in Colgar but possesses five carinations, viz., one central straight and longitudinal, one on each lateral area commencing on lateral margin about midway between base and eyes and curved inwardly before clypeus, and a short longitudinal one commencing on each side of base and not reaching middle, the lateral margins from eyes laminately reflexed; clypeus less convex than in Colgar and obliquely reflexed on each side, centrally longitudinally strongly carinate (Distant 1910).

Head conically produced. Frons elongate with five strong carinae, the middle three meeting at the apex of the cone, the lateral pair meeting apical margin midway between lateral margins and apex of cone. Vertex convex with median longitudinal carina. Vertex and frons separated by carinate margin which extends to apex of cone. Pronotum and mesonotum convex, medially carinate. Tegmen triangular with apical margin straight between sharply rounded apical angle and obtuse to rightangled sutural angle. Vein Cu branched at about midlength, anterior branch short meeting M3+4 to form strong angled crossvein. Costal cell wider than costal membrane. Hind tibia with one spine on external margin (Fletcher 1988).
