Introduction

The identity of this species is uncertain as it is based on a female type in a genus in which the species can only be reliably identified by reference to the male genitalia. Day & Fletcher (1994) listed it as a nomen dubium but raised the possibility that it is the same species as Knight (1975) described as Arawa pulchra Knight which has not yet been identified from Queensland. However, as pointed out by Knight (1975), there are also undescribed species in eastern Australia which confuse this possibility.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Vertex shorter than wide, slightly angulately rounded apically. Frons a little flatter, temples wider. Clypeus scarcely wider than lorae, genae less angulate. Pronotum with short but noticeable lateral margins. Coloring very similar [to Phrynomorphus longuinquus Kirkaldy] but vertex, pronotum and scutellum with only obscure scattered pale brown mottlings. Underside darker, anterior femora striped transversely with black. Length: 3¾ mm (Kirkaldy 1906).
