Arawa variegata Knight, 1975 by original designation.
Introduction
The genus Arawa contains eight species of broad leafhoppers which are dimorphic in both males and females. The most common form has the tegmina slightly shortened with the apical cells quite short and the appendix barely visible while the other form has fully developed tegmina with the apical cells clearly longer than wide and the appendix well developed. Two species are found in both Australia and New Zealand while each country also has three endemics. Knight (1975) noted that undescribed species occurred in Australia. The genus is named after "Arawa", one of the canoes which brought the ancestors of the Maori to New Zealand.
