11 November 2011 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

This species was originally described from drier inland areas of southern Western Australia but Webb (1983) extended the distribution to southeast Queensland and Kiata in western Victoria. He also stated that the two specimens from Queensland, both of which are females, differ from the other specimens in size and in a feature of the head which may indicate that they represent a different species. A third female specimen attributed to this species from the North Brigalow belt in Queensland is in ASCU.

Head yellowish pink, eyes dark brown, frons swollen. Pronotum and scutellum yellowish pink. Tegmen hyaline, yellowish pink. Thorax and abdomen ventral surface and legs yellowish pink, posterior margin of the last ventral abdominal segment in the female divided medianly. Length 4 mm, head width 1.2 mm (Evans 1936).

This species can be distinguished by its reddish brown to scarlet scutellum and by the arrangement of processes on the aedeagus. The two specimens from Queensland are bigger than the other specimens (5.3 mm compared to up to 4.5 mm) and have the clypeus tumid adjacent to the clypellus (Webb 1983).
