Introduction

The Withiidae are distributed in most parts of the world and over 30 genera and 150 species are currently recognised (Harvey 1991). The described Australian fauna is meagre, with one introduced species and a single species of Metawithius from Christmas Island. An undescribed genus has been collected from Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory (Harvey, unpublished data).

 

Diagnosis

Withiids are the only cheliferoids with a vertical junction between the femora and patellae of legs I and II.
