Taxonomic note
Gray's original description of Brandella intricata gives the location as Bass Strait, Dewi Reef. Its seems very likely that the reference to Bass Strait is an error as Australian specimens identified with this species have only been found on the Great Barrier Reef. Indeed, in the Australian/Indo-Pacific region at least, the genus has only ever been recorded from tropical and subtropical waters.
Among other occurences, Dewi is a name sometimes given to Indonesian females. It is therefore not impossible that Dewi Reef, if the correct location for the holotype, is in Indonesian waters.
