Introduction

The shell of Victaphanta lampra differs from V. milligani by the paler colour, shape and radial sculpture on the teleoconch. Animals are orange-brown in colour with an orange-red mantle. The species was referred to this genus by Smith & Kershaw (1979) with reservations.

Diagnosis

Shell large, reddish brown to greenish yellow, often with a broad yellowish area around umbilicus, subglobose with low spire; protoconch smooth, teleoconch initially with radial ribs grading to weak spirally arranged wrinkles, grooves and growth lines on last whorl above, smooth and very glossy on underside; umbilicus narrow, V-shaped; diameter to 22mm.
