Introduction

Victaphanta is distinguished among the Australian rhytidids by having a globosely ear-shaped shell that contains little calcium. The position of V. lampra within the genus is considered problematic (Smith, 1979).

Diagnosis

Shell large, glossy, subglobose to globose, ear-shaped with a low-domed spire, whorls rounded; protoconch smooth; teleoconch sculpture of irregular radial growth undulations and fine spirally arranged wrinkles or with radial ribs only on upper surface, smooth below; umbilicus closed to very narrowly open. Colour black to olive-brown and glossy with yellowish spire to reddish-brown with a pale yellow umbilical area.
