Introduction
Victaphanta compacta has a smaller, more glossy, globose and compact shell compared to V. atramentaria. Animals are dark grey to black in colour with no red or orange markings.

Diagnosis
Shell large, black with paler yellowish spire, globose; protoconch smooth, teleoconch sculpture with coarse spirally arranged branching wrinkles on first whorl grading to smooth on final whorl; whorls rounded; umbilicus very narrow to closed; diameter 20-25mm.
