Introduction

Victaphanta atramentaria has a larger and flatter shell compared to that iof V. compacta which occurs further west. Animal blue-black above with orange/red foot border.

Diagnosis

Shell large, black with paler yellowish spire, depressedly globose,whorls rounded; protoconch smooth, teleoconch sculpture of coarse spirally arranged branching wrinkles with additional strong growth ridges developing on body whorl; umbilicus very narrow to closed; diameter 30-35mm.
